Interview - ASSUMPTION

An introductory post about Assumption can be found here.

This interview is with Giorgio, who does everything but drums for the project.

1. Absconditus is one of the best albums of 2018 so far, how has the response been?

Thank you for the kind words. The response has been good so far, lots of very nice reviews worldwide. Plus, all at Everlasting Spew and Sentient Ruin are putting a lot of effort into the diffusion of our album. We couldn't be happier.

2. Your earlier releases are also excellent, is the new album helping the older material get more of the attention it deserves?

Thank you once again. I don't know if the new album will drag our previous releases into the sunlight. I think that The Three Appearances was a good mix of our different influences, but Absconditus is a more organic work. And speaking personally, I am always concentrating on the present moment.

3. Your more psychedelic elements/moments are very powerful, and pretty unique, are you Pink Floyd fans by any chance?

We are HUGE Pink Floyd fans. David loves them, and I'm a complete maniac. The Barrett era is the one I like most, but the 'Floyd influence on Assumption comes from the early '70s Gilmour chapter. Where the ambient sections are concerned, you might also find some references to old German artists like Agitation Free, Tangerine Dream/Klaus Schulze, Cosmic Jokers; or more 'recent' bands such as Equimanthorn, Trial of the Bow, Tuur...

4. Who are your main influences from within metal?

diSEMBOWELMENT, Winter, Thergothon, Esoteric, Evoken, very early My Dying Bride, very early Novembers Doom, Paramaecium, Magus, Incantation, Sorrow and so forth.

5. How did you guys get together?

I've known David since forever. We started Haemophagus in 2004, and we've had many side projects together ever since. Assumption was created out of an urge to play some doom death metal with trance-inducing effects.

6. Could you talk a little about your lyrical content?

The focus is on transcendence, the realm of vision, the afterlife and beyond.

7. Do you have any future plans you can share with us?

We should be touring in November to bring Absconditus to central EU. Tune into our FB page for more details.
