Underrated Old School Death Metal - Ten Essential Reissue CDs
In no particular order...
Desultory - Into Eternity (original release 1993) - Big improvements to sound quality on this 2011 reissue, and a remastered version of 1990's From Beyond demo is included as a bonus. The fact that Desultory (from Sweden) subsequently went off in a different direction takes nothing away from their debut.
Morta Skuld - Dying Remains (original release 1993) - An original pressing of this one would set you back a small fortune, but thanks to Peaceville there's no need to break the bank. Morta Skuld have been making a comeback in recent years, but this is where it all started and is arguably their finest hour.
Morta Skuld - As Humanity Fades (original release 1994) - Another superb album from Milwaukee's Morta Skuld, also reissued by Peaceville.
Depravity - Silence of the Centuries (original release 1993) - The one instance on this list where the original pressing is cheaper than the reissue, but whichever version you go for this EP from Finnish band Depravity is worth its weight in gold.
Morgue - Eroded Thoughts (original release 1993) - Dark Descent are responsible for resurrecting this Illinois band's only album, and they've done a great job.
Blackthorn - The Rotten Ways of Human Misery (original release 1992) - Blackthorn are from Mexico, this album has only ever been released in Mexico, so you will almost certainly need to order it from Mexico. But it will be worth it.
Acrostichon - Engraved in Black (original release 1993) - We have Memento Mori to thank for giving this Dutch classic a new lease on life.
Krhomadeath - Grating Into Corpse (original release 1994) - Some nice touches with this Temple of Darkness reissue of French band Krhomadeath's only album, including an embossed jewel case. More importantly, though, it sounds brilliant.
Baphomet - The Dead Shall Inherit (original release 1992) - Not to be confused with the Baphomet who prompted this Buffalo band to change their name after releasing this album. Another solid reissue from Peaceville.
Gorguts - Considered Dead (original release 1991) - Ok, so Considered Dead isn't really underrated as such. But it can't be rated highly enough. And this is an outstanding reissue from Listenable Records.
