DEAD METAL

Beherit is a Finnish band that formed in 1989. ...but their first full-length, Drawing Down The Moon, didn't land until 1993. It boasts death, doom and ambient elements aplenty, but is fundamentally a black metal release. A unique offering - messy and thoroughly lo-fi, and all the more charming for it. Special mention has to go to the vocals, which really are quite bizarre! The album can be heard below, and you can pick up a copy here .

This is the sound of Las Vegas, apparently. Goatlord formed in 1985 and recorded a few demos, followed by only one album. There are two different versions of that album, however - the original 1991 Turbo Music mix, and the 1992 JL America mix. This write-up is based on the latter; or more specifically, the 2007 Nuclear War Now reissue of the latter (which you can listen to below, along with a couple of bonus tracks that have featured on some editions of that reissue). Reflections Of The Solstice is blackened death-doom greatness. Occult atmospherics, psychedelic flavours... sloppy and primitive, in an entirely charming way, while also being utterly commanding. It's a pretty unique offering, but you could make comparisons with Drawing Down The Moon by Beherit , Gloomlord by Worm , the  Hearse  full-length... It is certainly an offering that doesn't get nearly enough credit. Reflections of the Solstice by Goatlord

Eroded Corridors of Unbeing made a lot of 2017 end-of-year lists, are you pleased with the response so far? We're all very grateful at the reception of the record. We put a lot of work into making the record something that captures all aspects of the band, and I think we succeeded. Always nice when people appreciate your work.  2. There's a definite shift in sound, from 2015’s Necrotic Doom EP to the album; was that intentional, and if so what was the intention? I think it was more subconscious, but with a mentality towards evolution. The lyrics have become more introspective and "serious" (actually started in the last song of the demo) and we wanted to expand on those themes of katabasis, black meditations and shadow realization.
